About our extra curricular activities
Traditionally, St Mary’s has provided extra curricular activities in Netball, Football, Badminton and Basketball.
Since the appointment of our Active School Co-ordinator and the community coaches, we have seen a
rapid growth in healthy activities for pupils including dance, Football Coaching, Athletics, Martial Arts and Scottish Country Dance.
Pupils can participate in these activities at club or festival level.
St Mary’s places strong emphasis on health and sport in order to promote a better life-style for our young people.
We have had a considerable increase recently in the number of clubs providing physical activities after school in addition
to our extra-curricular activities of Netball, Football, Badminton and Basketball.
The school also participates in many games festivals organised by the City Council Education Department.
Instrumental Tuition
In St Mary’s there are opportunities for pupils to learn a variety of musical instruments, piano, violin, brass, bagpipes.
Due to popular demand for lessons, an aptitude test is given to pupils who wish to be considered for tuition.
After a free trial period, if lessons continue, the charges to parents will be £108.00 plus £66.00 instrument hire.
These charges apply for a full school year. Pupils chosen for lessons are entitled to free tuition
if their parents are in Receipt of Income Support,
Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, Guaranteed
Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit (with an exemption certificate PPA) or Working Tax Credit (with an exemption
certificate PPA) and an annual income of less than £15,050.
Please feel free to contact us if you would like any further information about our extra curricular activities.
